Chapter Fourteen

I spent the entire night doing research and as soon as I woke up the next day, I headed over to The Chipped Mug so I could talk to Harley. I had spent a good hour debating whether or not I should tell him about Andy, but in the end, I decided that I really needed to talk to someone about it and I knew for a fact that Harley was good at keeping a secret anyway.

So, I walked in and went up to the counter where Harley was filling orders. I looked around and saw a girl named Courtney on the cash register, but I didn’t see Theo anywhere, which meant he was probably in the back somewhere. That gave me the perfect opportunity to talk to Harley.

I didn’t even bother to get in line to order. I knew that Har would make my drink between filling customer’s orders and that he no longer accepted my money anyway.

When he saw me, he smiled widely, “Hey, what’s up?” When he dropped his smile and narrowed his eyes at me, I realized I was chewing on my thumbnail.

I dropped my hand from my mouth and blurted, “I really need your advice.”

His eyes widened, but he passed and thanked a customer before saying to me, “About what?”

“Andy.”

“Oh, okay. What about him? Did you ask him out yet?”

I cringed, “Yeah.”

When I didn’t say anything else, he said, “You’re going to have to give me more than that.”

I blew out a breath and quietly stated, “I’m afraid to tell you.”

“What did you do?” he asked as he passed me a black coffee.

“I like how you automatically assume I did something.”

“And I like how you keep avoiding the question. Oh wait, no I don’t, I don’t like it at all. Tell me what happened,” he passed a huge tray of drinks to someone else, then walked away, but quickly returned with an amazing cinnamon bun that he handed me.

I sighed and said, “You have to promise not to say anything to anyone at all. Especially not anyone in our family.”

He eyed me for a moment, “You know I wouldn’t do that.”

I nodded, then looked at the long line before leaning over the counter, “I don’t want to shout it. Can you come here a little?”

He gave me a weird look, probably thinking I’d lost my mind, but moved closer to me, so I whispered, “He’s HIV positive.”

He cringed a little, then looked over my face before making another drink for someone. I figured he was probably just processing the information, so I started eating my cinnamon bun. If I hadn’t been so worried about Andy, I would have been in heaven because Harley’s buns were to die for. I snorted out loud at the thought, then looked at my best friend’s ass since his back was to me and decided that the thought wasn’t too far off, though I liked Andy’s ass even better… and that was saying something since my best friend was pretty damn hot.
